Teaching
I am part of the teaching staff of the Master program in "Geoscience" and the Bachelor programs "Geology", "Earth Science for Sustainable Development (ESSD)" and "Science and technology for the environment (STAN)".
Currently I teach in the following courses:
- Geology of crystalline rocks (MSci in Geoscience; ITA/ENG)
- Geological mapping (BSci in Geology; ITA), module on Magmatic and Metamorphic rocks
- Petrography (BSci in ESSD; ENG), starting in September 2026
- Mineralogy and petrography with laboratory (BSCI in STAN; ITA), module "Petrography"
Previous courses included:
- Petrography (BSci in Geology), module "Petrography of metamorphic rocks", until 2025
- Experimental petrology (MSci in Geoscience), until 2024
Research
I am a petrologist with research interests on the evolution of magmas in the continental crust and the architecture of the crust-mantle transition zone.
My main reserch activities in recent years are related to the exposed crustal section of the Ivrea-Verbano Zone (Southern Alps) and to the scientific drilling project DIVE.
My specific work include geological mapping, geothermobarometry and oxybarometry of igneous cumulates, mantle rocks and lower crustal metamorphic rocks, mineralogy and chemistry of the crust-mantle transition zone, and cutting-edge techniques to measure the oxidation state of iron in crust and mantle minerals.
